HOBY’s success is a direct result of the hundreds of volunteers who serve key leadership roles on its corporate boards and program committees. Each August, HOBY proudly recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of its affiliates and volunteers through volunteer achievement awards. Key volunteers in the positions of Corporation President, Leadership Seminar Chairperson, Alumni Advisor and CLeW Director are invited to apply for an award in each of their categories in July. In addition, all volunteers are encouraged to nominate individuals for the HOBY Volunteer of the Year Award, presented to two volunteers selected by a committee of peers. Special certificates are also awarded.
Below is a listing of the 2009 award winners. HOBY is grateful to all of the men and women who generously contribute their time, efforts, talents and enthusiasm to make HOBY’s leadership programs for youth possible.
Awards are based upon overall performance and the completion of milestones in the areas of Management, Finance, Program and Public Relations. Corporate Boards that meet the required criteria qualify as either Superior or Outstanding. Recognition indicates that HOBY believes the awarded Corporate Boards are the models for all corporations.

Two volunteers are recognized annually as HOBY’s "Volunteers of the Year." Applications are taken through a formal nomination process and recognition is given based upon years of service, contributions to HOBY, nominator’s written comments, and other community service involvement. Recipients are announced at the annual volunteer Training Institute.
Baird Krueger - Ohio
Baird reminds us that leadership is a process that never stops growing. He has a heart for HOBY and has contributed to his local site for over twenty years. Many of the people who nominated Baird are now adult volunteers who were impacted by him in their Ambassador year several years ago. One of his nominators praised Baird's wisdom, explaining, "When you hear the long list of things he has done, you realize you have a long way to go," and is inspired to go further in serving others each time he is around. The clear consensus among the nominations was that Baird inspires service, compassion, and commitment!
Brock Hollman - Iowa
Brock embodies the HOBY priority of making every experience top notch for volunteers and students alike. He understands that HOBY magic really happens when students and volunteers feel they've accomplished something of their own accord. Brock's biggest accomplishment in HOBY is showing up to work hard with enthusiasm and a heart for everyone who loves HOBY no matter who they are! This volunteer's nominator explained that Brock "has the biggest work ethic and the most enthusiasm, making everyone feel welcome all of the time. He would tell you why every person in the room deserved this honor before thinking of himself!"
