
The 2012 World Leadership Congress will take place from July 21-28 at Loyola University in Chicago, IL and we are currently accepting volunteer applications. First, review the corresponding job descriptions below for more information and then apply by clicking the link below. Please note: this is the only application on the site that applies to volunteering at the WLC.
Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to/from Chicago. HOBY will take care of lodging, meals, transportation and all other costs (except for personal spending money) for the majority of volunteer positions during the event.

WLC Chair: Coordinates and oversees the WLC volunteer team and planning process. Requires past WLC experience, must be over 25 years of age. The WLC Chair requires an extensive amount of advance planning work and some post-event work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Position Filled.
Assistant to the WLC Chair: Assists chair in coordinating and overseeing the WLC volunteer team and planning process. Requires past HOBY volunteer experience, must be over 18 years of age. This position requires a moderate amount of advance work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before November 1, 2011.
Vice Chair, Program: Coordinates the program team; develops and executes the WLC program. Requires past WLC volunteer experience, must be over 25 years of age. Vice Chair positions require a significant amount of advance work and a limited amount of post-event work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before November 1, 2011.
Choir Director: Coordinates the ambassador choir, conducts daily choir practice and directs the choir. The position requires a limited amount of advance work and familiarity with HOBY programs. Must be over 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before December 1, 2011.
Program Manager: Assists in program development, speaker and panelist contact, activity coordination, etc. Provides support to the Vice Chair, Program. This position requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 18 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before January 1, 2012.
L4S Manager: Develops and coordinates the Leadership4Service activities during the WLC. Provides support to the Vice Chair, Program. This position requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 18 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before January 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, Program Coordinator: Assists the VC, Program with the arrival and coordination of panelists and speakers and the execution of program activities. HOBY volunteer experience preferred, must be over 18 years of age. Multiple volunteers may be named for this position depending on need. On-site days can be selected by volunteer based on personal availability. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, College Fair Coordinator: Assists the VC, Program in developing and executing the college fair. Coordinates the communications and requirements of all participating schools. This position requires a moderate amount of advance work and can be done as a day volunteer, or in concert with another volunteer position if appropriate. HOBY volunteer experience preferred, must be over 18 years of age. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Vice Chair, Operations: Coordinates the operations team; executes and implements the logistical policies and procedures for the event. Requires past WLC experience, must be over 25 years of age. Vice Chair positions require a significant amount of advance work and a limited amount of post-event work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Director of Housing and Facilities: Coordinates with representatives from the University and off-site locations on all facility related requirements, assignments, circumstances and issues. Coordinates all housing assignments for ambassadors, volunteers, and guests. The position requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have previous HOBY volunteer experience and be over 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before December 1, 2011.
Director of Transportation: Coordinates all volunteer and ambassador transportation (buses, metro train, rental cars, etc...), including arrivals, departures and onsite requirements. The position requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have previous HOBY volunteer experience and be over 25 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before December 1, 2011.
Director of Procurement: Coordinates and executes all procurement before and during the WLC. Works with all teams to identify and secure all supplies in advance of the event. Oversees the Gift in Kind volunteer. Requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before January 1, 2012.
Director of Team Alumni: Coordinates Team Alumni to assist with the logistics of the WLC. Requires a limited amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before January 1, 2012.
Food and Beverage Manager: Plans for all meals and snacks throughout the WLC for volunteers and ambassadors, including special meal requirements and special events. Requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2012.
IT Manager: Plans and executes all information technology needs. Troubleshoots and resolves IT issues and maintains the IT framework. Requires extensive knowledge in this field. This position requires a limited amount of advance work. HOBY volunteer experience a plus, must be over 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2012.
Team Alumni: Provides logistical support to the operations team. 12 positions available. This position requires a minimal amount of advance work. Must be a HOBY alumni, actively engaged as a volunteer for a local site, and have HOBY leadership seminar junior staff volunteer experience and be over 16 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2012.
Operations Assistant: Provides support to the VC, Operations. Position requires a limited amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience, have excellent customer service skills and be over 18 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, Gift in Kind: Responsible for major gift in kind donations for the WLC. This position is entirely advance work and does not have to commit to any onsite time. This position will work with the Procurement Director to secure items needed. HOBY volunteer experience a plus, must be over 21 years of age. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before December 1, 2011.
Day Volunteer, Special Event Coordinator: Will work with the Food and Beverage Manager in coordinating the volunteer welcome event, volunteer thank you celebration and assisting with the Closing Ceremonies and Banquet. This position requires a moderate amount of advance work and multiple people may be utilized based on volunteer availability. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 21 years of age. Onsite day(s) coincide with events. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, Office Assistant: Assists the VC, Operations with general office duties (answering the phone, making copies, etc...). Multiple volunteers may be named for this position depending on need. HOBY volunteer experience preferred, but not required, must be over 18 years of age. On-site days can be selected by volunteer based on personal availability. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, Arrival Day: Meet and greet incoming students at various transportation hubs. Will work with Director of Transportation on specific assignments. HOBY experience a plus, but not required. Must be over 18 years of age. Several volunteers will be required in this role. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, Departure Day: Responsible for troubleshooting transportation concerns for departing students at various transportation hubs. Will work with Director of Transportation on specific assignments. HOBY experience a plus, but not required. Must be over 18 years of age. Several volunteers will be required in this role. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Vice Chair of Ambassador Staff/ Senior Section Leader: Coordinates the section leader and facilitator team. Requires previous WLC section leader experience, must be over 25 years of age. Vice Chair positions require a significant amount of advance work and a limited amount of post-event work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Position Filled.
Section Leader: Coordinates a team of 5 facilitator groups of ambassadors and is responsible for various aspects of the WLC experience (i.e. photo shoot, Ambassador reflections, etc...). Six positions are available. Requires past WLC facilitator experience, must be over 21 years of age. This position does require a moderate amount of advance work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Volunteer appointments expected to be completed on/before December 1, 2011.
Senior Alumni Section Assistant: Coordinate the Alumni Section Assistant team and is responsible for the "motivation factor" at the WLC. Requires past WLC Alumni Section Assistant experience, must be over 18 years of age. This position requires a limited amount of advance work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointments expected on/before February 1, 2011.
Group Facilitator: Leads a group of approximately 12 ambassadors through the WLC experience. 35 positions available. Requires HOBY facilitator experience, must be over 21 years of age. This position requires a limited amount of advance work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointments expected on/before February 1, 2012.
Alumni Section Assistant: Assistant to a designated section leader, responsibilities vary, depending on section leader responsibilities. Supports senior alumni section assistant in motivating ambassadors. Seven positions available. Requires HOBY volunteer experience, must be 18 - 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointments expected on/before February 1, 2012.
Vice Chair of Marketing and Publicity: Coordinates the publishing team, production and audio visual components, media relations, and HOBY Store. Requires past WLC experience, must be over 25 years of age. Vice Chair positions require a significant amount of advance work and a limited amount of post-event work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before November 1, 2011.
Publications Director: Coordinates and executes all publications for the WLC, including the WLC program book, the daily newsletter, the ambassador yearbook, and various other desktop publishing projects. Requires significant advance work with proficiency in CS5 software. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 21 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before January 1, 2012.
Publications Coordinator: Supports the Director of Publishing in all efforts. Requires moderate advance work and knowledge of CS5 software. HOBY volunteer experience preferred, but not required. Must be over 18 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2012.
HOBY Store Manager: Recommends products, organizes inventory and manages the HOBY Store throughout the WLC. This position requires a minimal amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 18 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2011.
Marketing Assistant/ Production Coordinator: Coordinates all media relations and production activities including coordinating any video/photography and AV needs with appropriate volunteers. Provides support to the VC, Marketing and Publicity. Requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 18 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2012.
Photographer/ Videographer: Serves as the official photographer and videographer throughout the WLC. Must provide own equipment, professional experience desired. HOBY volunteer experience preferred, must be over 18 years of age. Requires a limited amount of advanced work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before January 1, 2012.
AV Coordinator: Coordinates all audio visual support for the program. Supports VC, Marketing and Publicity. Requires a moderate amount of advance work. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 18 years of age. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Thursday, July 19, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before February 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, Public Relations Coordinator: Assists VC, Marketing and Publicity in writing press releases for ambassador's local media outlets and Chicago area press outlets; composes and publishes social media commentary and parent updates. Must have HOBY volunteer experience and be over 21 years of age. This position can be done in advance of the event or from a remote location and does not need to be onsite. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Vice Chair of Ambassador Safety: Coordinates the medic team and serves as Chief Medic, procurement of medical supplies and executes medical procedures before, during and after the WLC. Develops and implements all safety and emergency plans as needed. Requires past WLC experience, must be over 25 years of age. Vice Chair positions require an extensive amount of advance work and a limited amount of post-event work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before November 1, 2011.
Medic: Advises, assesses and treats ambassador medical concerns while at the WLC. Five positions available. Requires appropriate medical license. Must be over 21 years of age. This position requires minimal advance work. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Volunteer appointments expected to be completed on/before January 1, 2012.
Day Volunteer, Security: Assists with ambassador security for off-site events, several volunteers will required in this role. Must be over 21 year's old, familiarity with HOBY programs a plus. Volunteer appointment expected to be completed on/before March 1, 2012.
Chaperone: Works directly with students to implement the post-WLC tour of Chicago. The number of chaperones will be dependent on the number of students participating. All expenses during the tour are covered for chaperones, with the exception of transportation to/from the University campus in Chicago. Anticipated WLC arrival date: Saturday, July 28. Volunteer appointments expected to be completed on/before June 1, 2012.
