Volunteer for WLC 2007

Plans for the 2008 WLC are underway and volunteer positions have just been assigned. At this time, the only positions available are for Day Volunteers, Medics, Videographer, and Drivers. Please review the corresponding job descriptions below for more information.

Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to/from Washington, DC. HOBY will take care of lodging, meals, transportation and all other costs (except for personal spending money) for the majority of volunteer positions during the event.

High School Juniors to Age 20

Team Alumni
Provide support to all functions of the WLC. Typical duties include check in/out; snack, water and meal distribution; making/selling/distributing HOBY Hugs; on-site and off-site errands; facilitating the movement of groups; answering phones, taking and delivering messages; banquet set-up and tear down; newsletter distribution and more.

High School Graduates to Age 20

Alumni Section Assistant
The primary responsibility for Alumni Section Assistants (ASA) is to help Section Leaders and Facilitators create the appropriate culture necessary to provide a positive WLC experience for HOBY Ambassadors — a culture where Ambassadors feel comfortable and free to express their views, thoughts, and ideas.

Assistant to the Director of Ambassadors
The Assistant to the Director of Ambassadors will work closely with the DA, HOBY Headquarters, and other directors to implement the program according to HOBY goals and objectives.

18 Years and Older

HOBY Store Manager
The HOBY Store Manager is responsible for operation and management of the HOBY store during the WLC, including selection and acquisition of the merchandise to be sold in the store.

Manager of Community Service
Responsible for working with the WLC Program Director to coordinate the interactive, hands-on community service projects that take place in the DC area on Community Service Day at the WLC.

Manager of Special Events
The Manager of Special Events is responsible for coordinating various events that take place during the WLC and works in conjunction with HOBY staff, WLC Program Director and other key WLC Directors.

Program Technical Coordinator
Assist the Director of Programs with all technical aspects of program development and execution, as well as provide coordinated support with the Director of Information Technology.

Programs Team
The Programs Team assists the Program Director with all aspects of program development and program execution for the WLC.

Operations Team
Operations Team members assist the Director of Operations with the planning of all logistics in the months prior to the WLC and the execution of those activities during the WLC.

Publishing Team
Responsible for assisting the Director of Publishing in the compilation and production of various WLC publications. This position is a great opportunity for those looking to build upon their graphic design and publication experience.

Onsite Photographer
Serve as the onsite photographer for the duration of the WLC capturing photos of all ambassadors, staff, guests and events. Photos will be used for documentary purposes as well as publicity. NOTE: If qualified, this person may also hold the WLC Group Photographer position

All Ages

Day Volunteer
Day Volunteers are individuals who are unable to commit to volunteering in a specific role for the entire duration of the event and therefore assist in a less demanding capacity. The minimum shift is two hours and there is no maximum. Ideal candidates are local to the DC region.

21 Years and Older

Director of Ambassadors
Also known as “HOBY Daddy or Mama,” the Director of Ambassadors is named by HOBY’s Founder or CEO two years prior to his/her actual year. The Director is responsible for the entire team dedicated to working with the Ambassadors. Specifically, the Director manages the work of the Facilitators, Section Leaders and Alumni Section Assistants.

Director of Banquet
The Director of Banquet is responsible for coordinating the final graduation banquet in conjunction with HOBY’s Director of International Programs and the WLC Director.

Director of Gifts In-Kind
The Director of Gifts In-Kind (GIK) is responsible for identifying, soliciting, obtaining, and coordinating in-kind gifts that will be utilized during the WLC.

Director of Facilities
The Director of Facilities is responsible for managing all aspects related to the facilities (excluding housing) used for the WLC program, including conference and meeting space on GW campus and externally.

Director of Food & Beverage
The Director of Food & Beverage is the primary liaison between HOBY and the vendors who are contracted to provide meals, snacks and beverages at the WLC.

Director of Housing
The Director of Housing is the primary liaison between HOBY and the vendors contracted to provide lodging during the WLC. This could include university residence halls for the ambassadors and staff as well hotels for special guests.

Director of Information Technology
The Director of Information Technology is responsible for all on-site technological aspects of the WLC, mainly the creation and maintenance of a database that houses all information for staff, ambassadors, guests, and donors.

Director of Medics
The Director of Medics is responsible for coordinating and supervising the Medic staff for WLC.

Director of Operations
The Director of Operations is responsible for serving as HOBY’s key contact person for all logistics before, during, and after the WLC. The Director oversees all other directors and key volunteers who are executing responsibilities related to transportation, meals, lodging, IT, publishing, and alumni activities.

Director of Publicity
The Director of Publicity is responsible for promoting the newsworthy elements of the WLC, before, during and after the event.

Director of Publishing
The Director of Publishing works with the Director of Operations to create WLC related publications such as the daily WLC newsletter and the yearbook.

Director of Team Alumni
The Director of Team Alumni is responsible for coordinating and supervising the efforts of all Team Alumni during the WLC. The Director also coordinates with Director of Operations and works with the Day Volunteers.

Director of Transportation
The Director of Transportation is the primary liaison between HOBY and the vendors who are contracted to provide transportation at the WLC, such as to and from residence halls, airports, train stations, bus depots, rental cars, coach buses, subways, etc.

Facilitator
Facilitators are responsible for supervising a group of 12-14 student ambassadors for the entire duration of the WLC.

Section Leader
Primary liaison between the Director of Ambassadors and his/her respective “Section Team” of Facilitators and Alumni Section Assistants. Section Leaders share the responsibility for creating the appropriate culture for a positive WLC experience for all.

Medic
WLC Medics are responsible for overseeing the general health of the 500 students and more than 110 adult volunteers who attend the WLC each year.

Group Photographer
Take the group photo of the entire WLC as well as group photos of each state and country contingent. NOTE: If qualified, this person may also hold the WLC Onsite Photographer position.

Onsite Videographer
Serve as the onsite videographer for the duration of the WLC capturing video of all ambassadors, speakers, staff, guests and events. Videos will be used for documentary purposes as well as publicity.

Driver
Assist the Volunteer Staff Team by serving as a Driver of a HOBY vehicle to transport staff and/or equipment to various locations around the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia areas.
