You are invited to help HOBY celebrate its Golden Anniversary
Join Fellow HOBY alumni for HOBY MARCH ON WASHINGTON, a two day celebration at the 2008 WLC in Washington, DC.
Wednesday, July 30 – Friday, August 1
HOBY alumni, volunteers, partners and friends are invited to help HOBY celebrate its 50th anniversary by attending a two and a half day celebration at the 2008 HOBY World Leadership Congress in Washington DC, July 30 – August 1. This special event will bring together the HOBY Family to celebrate HOBY’s legacy of 50 years of service to the youth of the world. Building Dreams...Building Leaders...A Better World.
This celebration is your chance to rekindle old HOBY friendships and create new HOBY bonds at this dynamic celebration honoring the entire HOBY family! The success of HOBY is the direct result of its alumni and volunteers and we cannot imagine a better way to celebrate the golden anniversary of HOBY than by celebrating such an occasion with the entire HOBY Family. Pick and choose the events for which you would like to attend and register online. An asterisk (*) refers to a mandatory cost, otherwise everything else is optional. Below are the schedule and prices.
All alumni are welcome. Alumni under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or parent-approved chaperone. Registration deadline is July 15. For questions, email Cheree Suttles.
Event One: Washington National Baseball Game
6:15 – 10 pm, Wednesday, July 30
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of HOBY right off the bat and let HOBY take YOU out to the ballgame! Take part in your first opportunity to mingle with fellow HOBY alumni during a baseball game at the brand new Washington Nationals Stadium, Nationals Park. This evening at the ballpark is sure to be another home run for HOBY!
Event Two: HOBY MARCH ON WASHINGTON: HOBY’s 50th Anniversary Youth Service Day
8:30 – 4:00 PM, Thursday July 31
The celebration will begin full force with the largest service initiative HOBY has ever undertaken! We need your help to successfully flex our HOBY service muscles at HOBY March on Washington, our 50th Anniversary Youth Service Day. More than 1,000 volunteers are expected for the day, including the 650 students and volunteers attending the 2008 HOBY WLC, 200 students from Washington, DC Mayor Adrian Fenty’s Youth Leadership Institute, and hundreds of HOBY alumni, volunteers and friends. Together our HOBY volunteers will work on more than a dozen service projects throughout the District of Columbia to help make our nation’s capital and the world a better place to live.
HOBY Youth Service Day is Sponsored by the Corporation for National Service, Youth Service America, America’s Promise and ServeDC. HOBY Volunteers will spend the day working to benefit a wide range of national and international service organizations, including:

- Washington, D.C. Community for Creative Non-Violence

- D.C. Parks and Recreation

Event Three: HOBY 50th Anniversary Birthday Bash
6 – 10 PM, Thursday, July 31
After a day of HOBY volunteering across D.C., kick back and relax as we reflect on the day’s accomplishments and catch up with old friends at a one-of-a-kind HOBY celebration centered around family fun and entertainment. We will take a look back at HOBY’s accomplishments, and celebrate with fun, drink and entertainment, including musical and dance performances. Plus, all 1,000 volunteers will received the Gold Medal of Service from the President of the United States!
Event Four: VIP Alumni Cruise on the Potomac
12 – 2 PM, Friday, August 1
Set sail with your favorite HOBY pals and board the VIP Alumni Cruise down the Potomac River! Experience the nation’s capital and its stunning waterfront landmarks while enjoying a delicious lunch with your favorite HOBY friends. See you on board!
Event Five: WLC Closing Ceremonies Banquet
6 – 10 PM, Friday, August 1
The WLC Closing Ceremonies Banquet will be a must-attend, as we pay tribute to the 2008 WLC Class! Come take part in the festivities at the Washington Marriott Renaissance as the ambassadors conclude their journey at WLC to go on to carry out HOBY’s mission to make a positive difference in their own communities. In HOBY tradition, the ambassadors will conclude the banquet with a chorus performance and the HOBY WLC leadership torch will be passed on to the next class of HOBY volunteers. Volunteers and alumni are welcome to attend for $110. Parents of WLC 2008 students and others may attend for $125. Business attire preferred.
